Family Camping, Cute Fall Staples and a Great Movie: These are some of my FRIDAY FAVORITES!

Happy Friday friends!

So many fun things to blog about this week!

Last week my husband and I were able to fit in a date night upon the return from one of his quick business trips. He takes a lot of 1 and 2-night trips for his job. And while I don't always love solo parenting for 48 hours, he loves his job and is a genius at collecting airline miles and hotel points. Which I always benefit from, so I can't complain.

We tried a new (to us) restaurant in Laguna Beach called Sky Loft. You know happy hour is our jam, and the Sky Loft has a good one!

They had some additional goodies on happy hour which don't appear on their online menu...like the sweet potato fries served with a little jug of maple syrup. AMAZING! And, aren't sweet potatoes and maple syrup two key staples in "clean eating"? Really, it was health food in my mind...just being washed down with copious amounts of Chardonnay. Happy hour is always a FAVORITE! (This is one of my favorite dresses to wear out on date night. I originally found it at the Nordstrom Rack, but it's still available on the Maggie London website in limited sizes)!

After dinner we headed out to see The Big Sick. It's a true story and both funny and heart-warming! It's produced by Judd Apatow (I love his films, although, they are usually a bit naughty on humor and language, FYI). Below is the trailer. 98% on Rotten Tomatoes means this movie is a FAVORITE for many people lately!

We went camping in San Diego County over the weekend. Here in California, the best camping sites usually book up a full 6 months in advance, so I typically do all of our camping reservations between December - February (we try and go 3 times a year if possible).

We had a gorgeous spot at the edge of the meadow at Mt. Laguna. This is also an enormous working cattle ranch with a lake, and our children loved it! There were cows roaming, yes. But the highlight was the hundreds of tiny frogs jumping EVERYWHERE! I grew up camping and still love going.

What's not to love about a weekend away for under $100? (I'm planning a whole post dedicated to camping with kids in case you're interested)! Our weekend away was another FAVORITE!

Finally, I've been finding some DEALS lately on Fall clothes and shoes! I was so hyped up for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but only ended up finding a few things I loved. (I'm not a card holder so I couldn't shop early. Shock, I know)!

It seems bell sleeves are all the rage this fall, and I'm not mad about it! I love the feminine look of it, but so many of the tops I tried on completely overwhelmed my 5'3" frame. Not this one though. This split sleeve tee is still available in a variety of sizes and colors and is really nice quality! Despite it being from BP, it is true to size for women's sizing, not juniors. Give it a try if your on the hunt for something with special sleeves!

I tried the Vigoss jeans that are so popular, and I admit, I really liked them! They fit well, are a true mid-rise, and very cute! However, they were a heavier denim that might be better in a colder climate than SoCal. If you're on the hunt though, they still have some sizes left and the sale price is good thru August 6th!

Now, it may shock you, but my FAVORITE jeans lately have been from...Target! I know, right?! My good friend (who is an admitted jean snob) turned me on to their high-rise jeggings last year. As soon as she texted me about them, I thought: no way. Jeggings? High-rise? TARGET? No, thank you. But since she typically wears 7 for All Mankind and Paige (yet, still loved the Mossimo jeggings), I thought I'd give them a try. And you know what? GAME CHANGER. They've come out with a new raw hem jegging for this fall (because I guess the raw hem is THE thing from what I can tell). I ordered them online and picked them up in my store this morning. (Because, shopping with a 23-month old? I know I'd never successfully find them in the wall of jeans!). I ordered them in my normal size and one size smaller. And again, I bought the smaller size! I find you should typically size down with these jeans. And, they will not stretch out or get baggy knees throughout the day. They're really a FAVORITE! Anyhow, you must try them!

Finally, I have to say that Old Navy is ON POINT this season. I don't know about you, but it's always hit or miss with me and Old Navy. I'll go months without buying anything there, and then suddenly I'll get like 4 new dresses within a month! Well, if you haven't browsed their website lately, take a look. (And, I'll say: I typically ALWAYS find the sales and prices online better than the store! And, they often have "online exclusives" which I think are typically a little higher quality than the mainstream product in store). With free shipping over $50, why not? Here are my FAVORITES from them this fall:

First off, perforated peep-toe booties! I've tried two similar pairs over the last year, and both were failures. The TOM's ones cut into my big toe terribly. And last winter I purchased a pair from Target (which I loved!), but they didn't last. They started ripping along the perforations. I was doubtful about getting these from Old Navy. But they are a FAVORITE! They have a good amount of cushioning, are true to size, and definitely look more expensive than they really are! I bought them in black and I love them! (They're on sale now too)!

Another fall staple I've been wanting for ages has been a military style jacket. I always struggle because they're either too boxy or too long for my frame. But again, I was surprised finding one that fit perfectly at Old Navy! For reference, I got the regular XS. It comes in the traditional green, as well as navy, black, ivory, tan, and camo (make sure to click the "regular" tab to see all the colors available). It's also available in tall and petite sizes! I absolutely love it! It's feminine and could easily be worn as a jacket or blazer and not just a "coat".

I continued to hit the jackpot with Old Navy this season when I found this classic blazer. I love it! It's a classic cut, feminine and not boxy, true to size, and doesn't look cheap! It's available in a variety of sizes, and I think it'll be perfect with jeans and one of my favorite tanks layered underneath. (Those tanks are a linen blend and just a step above a regular tank top! The link defaults to the petite size, so click on regular to see the sizes and choices available).

I have one more jean recommendation for you! And guess where from?! Old Navy as well! I honestly haven't had luck with their jeans in quite awhile, but they did a good job with these ones. These are the Rockstar Distressed jeans with a raw hem. They're the perfect amount of stretch and rise (they cover the muffin top!), and I LOVE the distressing! I personally don't love the look of my entire knee hanging out, or worse, large holes that are tight and pinch bits of fat through them. No thank you. These are distressed really well! Give them a try if you're on the hunt!

And finally, my last fall staple is a classic trench coat! I've been on the hunt for a classic trench coat for years! Last year I got one by Via Spiga at Nordstrom, but it was just too tight across the arms so it ended up going back. When I ordered this one from Old Navy, I was skeptical of the quality. But, I loved it! I purchased it in black, and I can't wait to wear it. Classic, the perfect weight (it will keep you warm), and well made! For me in Southern California, this is the perfect year-round coat!

Well, those are all of my fall staples that I wanted to share this week. I'm always excited when I can find something trendy, well-made, and a bargain. That's my FAVORITE!

I wish you all a happy weekend! We're starting it off with happy hour at the golf club with my parents tonight. It's a little tradition to go there almost weekly, and we all love it. It's very cozy, with a fireside patio overlooking the hills, and the kids enjoy running around and collecting bugs while we wait for our food! Then, we're hoping for a slow-paced weekend, most likely picnicking at the beach and just relaxing! My littlest still isn't sleeping very well post vacation. I don't know if she still thinks she's on European time or what, but it's killing me! The weather should be perfect, so we usually pick up Chil-fil-A or order a pizza to be delivered at the beach and just chill.

Have a great weekend! See you back next week!
