Date Night: Beach Edition

A few nights ago, my husband got home a bit earlier from work than usual. So, we ordered in Thai food for grandma and headed to one of our favorite beaches: San Clemente.

This beach is probably about 10 miles or so from our home. But, last year they built a road that takes us through the hills from our neighborhood and weaves straight down towards the water. No highway! If you live in California, you know being able to avoid the highway is like having a winning lottery ticket.

On this particular night we decided to try a little place just across from the pier called Pierside Kitchen and Bar. I've walked and driven past it a hundred times, but never actually been inside.  What a cute little gem of a place!

They have an excellent menu + happy hour. (We dig HH). The food is served on rustic aluminum trays with French ticking cloth napkins. Beautiful.

The service was great and I loved the ambiance. Very warm amd beachy inside with a great view.  Nothing like eating bacon wrapped dates, sipping on Chardonnay and listening to the waves!

After dinner we walked along the main pier and chatted with some of the people fishing.  I grew up fishing a lot (we lived on a lake). But I've never been ocean fishing!  I may venture back down soon and take the kids and our poles.

After walking the length of the pier we popped into Fisherman's  (one of our fave local restaurants) for their enormous mudd pie.  Seriously,  one slice serves an entire family. The two of us couldn't even put a dent in it!  And, what's better is it's only $6!

We ended our date night sitting up on the benches watching the sunset.  A beautiful kid-friendly evening to catch our breaths during an otherwise busy week!

If you're interested in visiting Pierside Kitchen and Bar, their menus are below!

Until next time...
